IPAC and security agencies seek peaceful campaigns in Enugu – The Sun Nigeria

The Enugu State branch of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) said it was working diligently with the state police command and other security agencies to mitigate any violent clashes ahead of the election campaign in the state.

He also commended the State Police Commissioner, Ahmed Ammani and other security chiefs for their efforts to ensure the maintenance of state peace.

A statement from IPAC President, Chief Edwin Alor and Secretary, Hon. Elvis Ugwoke, after an interactive session between police, other security agencies and political party leaders in Enugu on Wednesday, the body said it would not hesitate to sanction any member flouting its code of conduct.

IPAC also urged all political parties in the state to submit their campaign platforms to security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), saying this would prevent clashes.

The group called on its members to ensure thematic campaigns devoid of name-calling, slander and hate speech, advising them and their supporters on the need for peace to prevail before, during and after elections. .

“We have a duty to guide our members appropriately in keeping with Section 227 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Sections 78 and 92 of the Elections Act 2022 as amended,” they said. they stated.

The statement further dissociated the group from allegations of attacks and robbery allegedly made against the state branch of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) led by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi by the state Labor Party.

“IPAC is a political association of all registered political parties. We are not an opposition platform. We exist to promote the common interest of all political parties.

“Other party leaders including PDP Vice Chairman, Hon. Innocent Ezeoha, Chairman, IPAC, Hon. Edwin Alor and other security chiefs have debunked the allegations as a pigment of the imagination of the president.

“We are pleased that at the start of the campaign, security agencies enlightened us on how to conduct our campaigns in order to achieve hard-hearted campaigns,” the statement said.
